Excellent Indian food, interesting beer card... I had the 0.75 l King Cobra, served like a bottle of wine.
Friendly and helpful staff, a bit cool in the restaurant (winter), but compensated with spicy food.
The food was delicious with good portion sizes however the service was a bit rushed and not in keeping with the overall standard of the restaurant. Our waitress started to clean our table as my baby son was still eating some rice and she did not seem to enjoy her role. I appreciate babies are messy and she was probably keen to clear the table for the next customers on a busy Friday night (although we hadn't been there very long) however it felt a little like they were too keen for us to leave despite my boy behaving very well in the restaurant. Great food but don't expect great service.
Food was amazing. Service was bad, took long to get our food, we asked to add tomato to the salad and they said we don’t have tomate. We asked to split the bill and they refused to do that. I had the feeling that they wanted us to leave. Disappointed by the service, not welcoming vibe.
Racial discrimination alert !!!!? So today we decided to celebrate my wife's birthday at Surya Utrecht. I have been going here for 4 years. First the food quality has gone down significantly. We decided to cut the cake.
1. I asked the employee if we can cut the cake she said it's fine. She even offered that she will cut and serve cake for us
2. 10 minutes later another employee came said outside food not allowed but he allow us because it's birthday of my pregnant wife.
3. Same employee came and said the restaurant manager said he will charge me 20 euros for cutting the cake.
As customer i paid 300+ bill and despite this racial discrimination I still tipped the waiter good.
I have been going to Surya for 20-30 times in 4 years and seen many celebrations from people. The manager saw my family and pregnant wife and still billed us despite his own staff agreed to my request.
It's very sad that rules changed based on my color and nationality and the pity is that food this restaurant is selling is from the same country.
The food is very average compared to other Indian restaurants. It is more home quality than a refined restaurant quality. For example the Biryani’s rice was very mushy. The taste was fine. The Tandoori Chicken was dry. On the other hand, staff are great. Very attentive, always around. Atmosphere was fine.
Food was good and great service! I asked for a guava cocktail and they made a really nice one! Will return at least for the hospitality. Was an excellent experience.
